About

Born in May 1958 in Mwaro Province, Burundi, Perpétue MIganda has held several positions in the field of social affairs, human rights and peace processes in her native country, before moving to Rwanda in 2001 with her family. She then worked as an independent consultant in the field of governance.

From 2008 to 2014, she was the Principal Officer for Gender and Community Development Department at the East African Community Secretariat where she was responsible for several portfolios related to social development. Having travelled extensively in her professional setting, the author was increasingly inspired by the know-how and the values of peace, humanity and solidarity shown by the so-called indigenous peoples, but are crumbling with the growing influence of modern materialism.

She thereafter released her first book on her native country ‘Trésors du Burundi Ancestral’. In order to give life to the treasures she describes in her book, she has now founded “Kwa Miganda, Karambi Culturel Heritage”, a community project aimed at restoring and preserving ancestral knowledge from her native region.

She is also a member of professional associations such as FemWise-Africa, University of Mwaro and the Association for the Development of Rurtyazo.

In September 1982, she married Gaspard Niragira, an Engineer in Irrigation. They have together four children and three grand-children.
